Hey! I’m Carly, the author of Comics Coffee Date and I would love if you could join me for a monthly coffee and yap! I created this newsletter with goal of providing a much-needed deep breath in a contemporary world that grows ever-more suffocating. Let’s take a second to sit down with a good cup of coffee, read some silly little comics and have good conversations.

I have a dream. Ok, I have two dreams. The first one is to have a graphic novel on the NYT Bestseller List, but I should probably finish my BFA first. The second is to own and operate a coffee shop. It’s cliche, I know. I also know that it’s not easy. Despite the challenge, I truly believe nothing brings people together better than a really good cup of coffee, and I want to provide a medium through which community can form.

Alongside some fun stories from being a barista, I want to share my obsessive coffee knowledge with you. We will experiment with new blends, roasts, and recipes and I’ll give you the rundown of my favorite coffee shops from the month and the drinks I order and obsess over. What are the trends? How is the coffee scene growing and changing? How are roasters ethically sourcing their beans? What classic drink has Starbucks massacred this time?

The hill I am standing on is coffee bean sized, but I am prepared to die on it.

Barista by day, cartoonist by night - my self-appointed tagline. Being a barista comes with a lot of unique challenges… and customers… which makes making comics about it super fun! Making diary comics proves to be a valuable copacetic for artists with day jobs, but I don’t just make comics about obnoxious customers and incompetent coworkers.

I enjoy oversharing.

Let’s yap about baseball and softball and how many black eyes and bruises I got on the field, about dogs and how the human race doesn’t deserve the love they have to give, about friends and ex-friends and boyfriends and ex-boyfriends. Let’s share a safe space together where we can talk about the hard stuff as a community, where we bully fascists and condemn capitalism and let love be love.
